Security forces have killed 12 drug smugglers

Iranian security forces have killed 12 drug smugglers and seized 500kg of narcotics in two operations near the border with Afghanistan, state media says.The drug traffickers were killed near the city of Taibad in Khorasan Razavi province in the last 48 hours, the official IRNA news agency said, without elaborating.Iran is on the heroin smuggling route to the West from Afghanistan, the world's number one producer of the opium poppy which is the key ingredient for heroin.More than 3,300 Iranian security personnel have died fighting drug smugglers since Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution.

Three traffickers were arrested and handed over to judicial officials

Police Commander of Sirjan Colonel Hooshang Pour Rezaei said on Tuesday that the forces under his command confiscated 1,068 kilograms of narcotic drugs at a house.
Speaking to IRNA, he said the drug traffickers were loading the drugs into a truck when they were surrounded and arrested by the police.
The traffickers were to dispatch the consignment to Isfahan, he said.
Three traffickers were arrested and handed over to judicial officials, he said.

Three men were publicly executed in the holy city of Qom

Iran hanged five convicted drug smugglers on Wednesday, Iranian media reported, the latest in a series of executions since authorities launched a crackdown on "immoral behaviour" last year.
Three men were publicly executed in the holy city of Qom, south of the capital Tehran, the official IRNA news agency said.
Two others were hanged in the southeastern city of Zahedan in Sistan-Baluchestan province, notorious for clashes between security forces and smugglers, the state broadcaster reported.
"The death sentence for these (three) people was issued by Qom's Islamic revolutionary court ... and was carried out this morning," Qom judiciary official Hoda Tarshizi said.
"These criminals had a background in drug smuggling and had served time in jail but they continued with their criminal activities after they were released," she said.

Executed in public


four men were hanged for drug trafficking in the city of Bojnord in the Northern Khorasan Province in Iran.
The court order for one the convicts, who had criminal record of dealing drugs, adultery and smuggling alcohol, was executed in public. The three others were hanged in the prison area.

Iran hanged three convicted drug smugglers in the central city of Qom on Sunday, Iranian media said, in the latest public execution in the Islamic state.The number of executions in Iran, many in public, has risen since July with the launch of a crackdown on "immoral" behavior. Police say they have arrested many murderers, rapists and drug traffickers.Murder, rape, adultery, armed robbery, apostasy and drug smuggling are all punishable by death under Iran's sharia law, imposed after the 1979 Islamic revolution. Five drug dealers were hanged in the city of Birjand on November 20.
